PRACTICE,PRACTICE &ONLY PRACTICE........
I have noticed many times that many students find chemistry quite a boring subject or some feel it is quite tough especially organic.So,today i am going to tell you few simple tips that may lighten up your pressure of chemistry and u may start finding it interesting.
Solving a chemistry problem...-whether it is a word problem or is based on mathematical calculations would be at times a tricky business.More so for entrance exams like IIT-JEE where all your comprehension,analytical and reasoning abilities are tested.But you don't need to get panicky at all if you get a complex problem to solve.All you need is a good mindset,patience and finally practice,practice and practice!Solving a chemistry problem requires precise,analytical thinking and mathematical skills.In order to succeed ,there are some essential steps which you should keep in mind .
STEP 1::
ANALYSE THE PROBLEM SITUATION :
The essential components of this step are:
a) To grasp the problem and to make a mental image of the given problem situations.
b) To extract the data from the given situation,and to identify the known and unknowns.
c) To have the estimate about the exact answer.
STEP 2::
DEVISE A STRATEGY:
Now you have to brainstorm to find relationships (equations) by which the unknown may be related to the known in the given problem situation.
STEP 3::
CALCULATE AND GET THE ANSWER:
Here,you have to use like the road map to calculate the solution.
STEP 4::
CHECK THE SOLUTION AND PRESENT THE ANSWER:
The two components of this step are:
a) Ensure that the solution obtained is acceptable according to the problem conditions.
b) Present the solution in the required formats
STEP 5::
MEASURE YOUR LEARNING:
How higher up you have taken your skills while working for the solution of this problem.
A point of difference between chemistry problems and pure math problems is measurement error.Make sure to take into account the limited measurement reliability.Lastly make sure calculations give physically realistic answers.While mathematically there may be several solutions to a problem ,some of them may not be realistic and acceptable for the given situation in a problem.For solving the word problem in chemistry(which is like in most of the cases) if you are clear of the underlying concepts and laws,things would be quite clear.
See each and every thing revolves around fundamental concepts,so please its my request that students should clear their basics at priority and make their fundamentals strong and then they go for deeper concepts and difficult questions.
As far the organic chemistry(chemistry of carbon containing compounds) is concerned,again you have to start from the basic concepts,structural formulae of organic molecules,then the IUPAC Nomenclature of organic compounds,then structural isomerism,geometrical isomerism,resonance ,hyperconjugation and so on.........(the list is long).So,mainly what i am trying to say is basics should be given much more focus and then one should shift to the tough concepts.
I expect that my approach will help you to do better in chemistry(and all subjects) and you all will feel it as an interesting subject and please learn it by heart and with all your attention for learning something out of it........not just for marks!!
Remember ,success isn't something that happens overnight rather it is something that builds "physically" and "mentally" everyday that you train and every night that you dream.So,just remember the three words ........Practice ,practice and Practice!!!!!!!!
Key Note: One important thing that i would like to mention here is please stop comparing yourselves with others which i feel has become a common phenomenon today.Everyone wants to be like some or other person around them who they feel is much better than them in terms of intelligence,smartness or any other criteria.Please stop doing this....Remember its your uniqueness which makes you beautiful and you have heard that "no two human beings on this earth are alike".So,if you want to succeed in true terms ,just be yourself and listen to your inner voice and do what you feel like doing and choose that thing.Again i would like to mention this thing for parents also ....stop comparing your children with others saying that their friends are more intelligent and talented than them and constantly telling them to be like their friends.This kind of attitude or feeling is not going help your child in any way.Let them choose their profession or their way of studying themselves ,....Don't make them feel complex and irritable about themselves by keep on putting constant pressure on them...It is said that Parents need to fill their child's bucket of self esteem so high that no one can poke enough holes to drain it dry.......So,i would like both students and their parents to stop making comparisons.......Just be yourself and follow your mind and do what you feel is best for you....and lastly remember just follow excellence ,success will automatically follow you...
